Showering

I think one of the most notable accomplishments in the life of a mother of young children is....drum roll please...taking a shower! I know you thought I would say raising good kids, keeping her house clean, making gourmet meals, etc., but it really is being showered that takes the cake for the accomplishment of the day.

Don't you think?

This last week I took a shower 6 out of 7 days.

Let me recount:

Day 1: Woke up, went on a run, did some chores, showered while L was watching a show and E was taking a nap.

Day 2: Tried to take what I call a "body shower" where I don't wash my hair for lack of time afterward to style it. Maybe gross, but it is survival. During my "body shower" E came knocking on the shower door and opened it and started to come in, drenching herself in the process.

Day 3: Showered before noon. Yahoo! Did hair while my girls looked through my jewels and strewed them about the floor. Woke up in the morning with an earring stuck on my leg.

Day 4: Showered before 3pm. During E's afternoon nap while L was, yes, watching another movie. Even got time to blow dry and straighten my hair. Yea!

Day 5: Showered before dinner. With my girls making several visits to the bathroom, but not attempting to get wet themselves. Good enough.

Day 6: No shower. It just didn't happen. Several times I made the attempt but was thwarted by a messy diaper, a potty accident, making a meal, getting a snack, a phone call, etc. You get the picture. By the time I'd made and cleaned up dinner it was just not worth it anymore.

Day 7: Woke up at 6:00 am and showered in peace while the rest of my family slept on.

How do you get a shower in during your day?

I remember getting 10 minutes to yourself locked in a bathroom was tough with little kids. Lots of movie/TV watching was involved for my kids too :) It is nice to get it done early while they're still sleeping. Good luck with future showers!

Ha! Very true. I often take a quick shower while Persy naps, or I sit her on the bathroom floor while I shower frantically and play "peek-a-boo" at the same time. My privacy has gone out the window! Is this a picture of your shower head or a photo from the internet? I really like it.

I hear ya! I am presently unshowered at 11:48am. I opted to accomplish some projects during Adams nap today, rather than shower. So here I am still in my pj's. I have been really working on going to bed early so that I can wake up and take one before Adam gets up. Of course today he chose to wake up early as well!

It is nice to hear that other moms have such a hard time getting something as simple as a shower in as well! :) Oh the days of having no children and showering every single day whenever I wanted.... *sigh*

I usually get up, get dressed for the gym, take Anna to preschool, go to the gym, pick Anna up bring the girls home and make them lunch and then park them in front of the TV so I can take a shower. Yeah, it takes me that long after I work out to shower. I know!! My showers are almost always in the middle of the day and include the girls watching TV! Sad, but true!

confession... I get my showers in but my hair gets washed about once a week. Sad part is that it is by choice! I know I need help right!?

oh SO TRUE! I have to shower 2 minutes or under or who knows what will happen! Oh man-I still am so sad over spencer playing and breaking a dozen eggs while I showered for a minute and a half the other week :(

Best I found is shower at night when the boys are asleep and wash my hair in the morning...some times that seems so hard too!

I find it hard too and I don't even have kids!!! It's just so time consuming to dry your hair and everything else that goes along with that. I too do the body shower quite often! But yeah, having two kids would make showering extremely difficult.

At least you didn't wake up with a retainer stuck to your leg.
I shower every morning before work because if I don't, I don't feel awake.

6 out of 7 days that is DANG good I am saying I probably only get a shower in 4 out of 7, GASP I know. But like you said survival.
p.s. I shower usually after my girls are in bed or while E is sleeping and M is at preschool!

I can't imagine even one day withoug a shower. It helps to have no little kids around anymore, and it really is easier to have very short hair. One of the main problems (among many) with camping is not being able to shower. A day without showering stinks. I do feel bad for the mothers of young kids who have to struggle to shower, though.

Isn't it funny that we take simple tasks for granted until they are denied to us? It IS hard to find time for this simple task with little kids. I remember Andy just climbing in with me to take a bath when he was very little and that helped to kill two birds. Maybe this is why he still loves to take a bath instead of a shower. How do you feel about community bathing with the girls? It's a thought! Haha!

So I am glad that other people have the same problems to get a shower in! Seriously, a long luxurious shower is just out of the question anymore. :)

And Wendy, I wish the picture was from our bathroom, but alas, it is just one from the internet.

IS that your shower? Nice! Very luxurious looking.
Haha who showers? Its nearly impossible..my favorite is when you can't get to it all day..even after a sweaty run and you go all day and into the next. Love it! Then of course you do shower because you can no longer stand the smell..and you probably shouldn't go to the grocery store looking like that.

I don't have that problem quite yet, but I've wondered how I will deal with it. I watched my friends two little girls last week so she and her husband could go out. They went swimming. She said that the best part was the long shower she took afterwards where she didn't have to worry about anything. I think I understand a little bit better now.

Thanks for the laugh Jordan! It is so true. I'm lucky to get a shower in before dinner, sometimes it is not until before bed - and I lock the door and enjoy every minute!

Oh my gosh! Loved this. Showering is tough! I should make that my big goal, instead of weight loss. I want that shower head you have pictured. That is way cool.

Hey Jordan,
Thank you so much for the Christmas card... very nice! This blog entry is cute. I can't wait to have kids so I can have an even more difficult time getting into the shower, he he.
