My husband got an alarm clock for his 12th birthday that made it into the marriage and woke us up for grad school, work, and church for the last many years. But sadly, last week it died. Poor J has an attachment to inanimate objects that have been a part of his life for a long period of time, and several times tonight on his way to the trash can he mentioned how sad he is at its passing. It was a trusty friend to him and woke us up for many an important event. She lived a long life and will be missed. Goodbye yellow friend.

Isn't it funny how we go get attached to things like that? Your cube clock radio died in your room and I recently had to put it to rest as well. I guess clock radios are like dogs, they age more quickly than we do. May she rest in peace.
I love this post. Love it especially because my dear husband also has such attachments to inanimate objects and I think he would have reacted exactly like Jacob. So funny. Christian would probably even still be a little sad about it... I hope Jacob's coping well and adjusting to your new friend :)
The new stuff isn't as good as the old stuff, and it's hard to get attached to it. I do believe that we should have attachments to inanimate objects, and the older the better. Sorry for J that the alarm clock died. For myself, I love our old cars, and get quite attached to them. Hooray for the Dodge Intrepid!

Ha ha that is so funny...R's alarm clock died recently, too. Did Jake's yellow friend used to be white by any chance?
That is SO FUNNY! Seeing his clock reminds me of the little brown tape player I had when I was little...
Yes, Claire, the alarm clock used to be yellow. That really tells its age.
That was too funny. It reminded me of the Silver Bullet and how your dad used that until its dying days.
Can I say "Brave Little Toaster." That toaster would so love him as "Master." (If you haven't seen the above mentioned movie, please disregard comment). :-)
