Princess Power

So, since my last post about Dora being the winner in the epic battle of childhood character marketing schemes, I have to say that things have been changing around here. L has really taken to the princess action figures we bought her in D-land and has seen several of the princess movies and she is losing her love for Dora. Instead of her saying "tell me a Dora story Daddy" she requests a princess story, and instead of "one Dora song and one Jesus song" before bed, she requests one princess song (which I can mostly remember from my childhood, except films that came out after I was a girl) along with a Jesus song. She loves to dress up and pretend to be a princess (usually Cinderella or the "Pink Princess" Aurora) and have either J or I act the part of the Prince. (She even goes so far as to give an order such as "Get me a plate, Prince." :) I have to say that both J and I have mixed feelings about it. Dora has been a part of our lives for a good while and we've enjoyed letting L live up her Dora love. I guess we just have to face it that our baby is growing up!

lauren asking for a dora story from daddy reminds me of how jake loved to hear scary stories when he was little and would always say to mike "tell me a darry dory dad"

i think it's great how kids finally move on from certain obsessions. it's better for the whole family!

I honestly think there is no avoiding the princesses from little girls! I told Anna after I talked to you that Lauren likes princesses now and Anna said, "Lauren loves princesses??? And Dora??? Just like me!!" I think these girls are going to have lots of fun together, we can't wait to see you!

The winds of change! I never put a theme in the boys room...It can go from power rangers one week and then to teenage mutant ninja turtles the next. The last two weeks it has been He-Man of all things!!!

It is cute to see the change and imagination....

Jord: It's great that L has moved on to princesses. Dora isn't that cool, and the princesses are. After all, they have Prince Charming or some equally desirable person after them, and Dora only associates with a monkey. I think it's a wonderful thing that kids have such good imaginations and love to dress up, hear songs, and play. Long live childhood.

Okay, Vonnie just made me laugh really hard with that monkey comment. Poor Boots! I can't wait for Milly to get into Princess stuff. She has a lot of boy toys because of Spencer, and likes playing cars. But she does like to cuddle and kiss her baby doll too.
