As we were talking with our girls tonight, Lauren said that she was grateful that Jake's surgery was after her baptism and confirmation, because she now has the gift of the Holy Ghost to help her when she feels worried about his surgery tomorrow. We believe that this gift is the privilege of enjoying the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost and are so grateful that our little girl has the promise to be comforted by that constant companionship tomorrow, and throughout her life.
One of Lauren's favorite songs is called When I am Baptized and we sung it as part of her baptismal service. The words are as follows:
I like to look for rainbows whenever there is rain
And ponder on the beauty of an earth made clean again.
I want my life to be as clean as earth right after rain.
I want to be the best I can and live with God again.
I know when I am baptized my wrongs are washed away,
And I can be forgiven and improve myself each day
I want my life to be as clean as earth right after rain.
I want to be the best I can and live with God again.
In a usually sunny desert, Lauren's baptism day dawned with big clouds in the sky. Throughout the day the rain poured down in droves and filled the usually empty reservoirs of the desert. The rain had dissipated by the time we left to drive to the church, and stayed at bay during the baptismal service and for us to take pictures after the baptism.
Our dear friend Nelly attend the baptism and went out into the hallway with her son during the service. While there, she looked out the window and saw two beautiful rainbows in the sky. She took this picture and wrote to us how "it came to me that those rainbows were for our friends Jordan and Jake."
I had a similar thought as we were driving to church today. The sun was shining and the earth was clean again. I commented to Lauren that we had experienced the words of her favorite song. Although her baptism day was filled with rain, the Lord had sent a rainbow and made the earth clean again.
We do not know what storms lie ahead for our family. Jacob has surgery tomorrow, and will then undergo treatments of various kinds for weeks to come. We cannot predict what changes, or hardships, or trials will enter our lives.
But we can choose to look for rainbows. The small things that will give us hope, that will lift us up, and that will give us courage as we move ahead. I know that no matter fierceness of the storm, God will always send a rainbow. He made that promise to Noah and it is still in force today. We are grateful for the knowlege that He who is master of the elements stands at the helm and will help us, our children, and our families by sending rainbows.

We love you guys! Sounds like Lauren had a pretty good day and I'm glad she'll have that extra comfort tomorrow as Jake goes into surgery. We are praying constantly for you!
I love you and I hate cancer. What a lovely baptism, and a wonderful thing to experience right before this surgery. We are fasting and praying our guts out. And I have been crying my eyes out because I love you so much, and I hate to see you go through this.
I'm reading this on the middle of the night while feeding Nora. Totally crying. I love you and Jake. Thank you for being such a beautiful example of faith. That little Lauren, too. Wow. What an incredible little girl. I KNOW it is for our good-but I can't help but to think how much mortality just stinks (I feel like my limited vocabulary doesn't do my feelings justice). Love you.
Our family is thinking of you guys and adding our prayers and faith for knowledgable doctors, peace for your family, and medical miracles.
Love, Cousin Eric Robertson's family
Your example has already lifted so many people. As tears run down my cheeks while reading this wonderful "sermon," I thank God for your faith which has lifted mine. You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. We teach Primary now, and that is one of my favorite songs as well. I constantly tell our class, "Everything you really need to know about the Gospel you learn in Primary, and especially from the Primary songs."
Congratulations Lauren for making such a big decision. Cancer can be difficult, but it has brought our family together like nothing else could. Keep looking for rainbows, because it will give you hope to weather the storms in life. Your family and the surgeons are in our prayers today as always.
I had similar thoughts when we were taking pictures outside on Saturday. God is so aware of you and loves you and I know there are and will be many, many rainbows throughout this awful time.We could not love you guys more. Thanks for sharing Lauren's big day with us, we were so happy to be there. Love, hugs, tears and prayers are coming your way!
That was such a beautiful post, Jordan. Your family is such an amazing example of goodness and faith. Lots of prayers are coming your way from the Boston part of the Robertson clan.
Jordan and Jake, our thoughts, love and prayers are with you. You are both the most wonderful examples of faith and love. Thank you for that. We are here for you whatever you may need!
The Merrill family is praying for you guys and thinking of you. I love that our 4 and 7 year olds pray for Jacob by name in every prayer even though they've never met him personally.
Thinking about you all every minute today. I wish I had a fast forward button to push to make this day/ surgery go more quickly. How I hope and pray for the most optimal outcome available. Lots of love, Debbie

Jordan, I want so much to send you wise words of hope and comfort, but each time I come here, I am the one inspired, lifted and comforted. I will always love you and your family and our shared Cherry Village days. Your friend, Connie
