Do I delete?

I am feeling overwhelmed with pictures.

We just transferred all of the pictures on our two old computers to our new computer and now have almost 6,000 pictures. It is too much. I'm trying to sort them out and get them organized, but I feel overwhelmed by the volume of photos.

There are many pictures that are not good quality, dark, awkward, and almost duplicates of the same events.

Should I just delete them? What do I do in the future? Any advice?

Yes, delete. I have 7 boxes under my bed of hard copy photos from the days before digital, that some day I need to downsize and organize and the thought of the project is so overwhelming. The kids do like looking through their boxes though. I'm not a scrapbooker, so their box is probably the best it is ever going to be. So, pick your favorites, print them and put them in a box for each girl.

Whether you decide to delete them or not, (and if you don't already have one), you should get a hard drive. I put a bunch of stuff on there that I don't totally need, but it's there just in case. Then it's not in the way, and you can get hard drives with tons of space so you don't have to worry about having too many. Just a thought.

I just transferred my entire picture collection from the PC to an external hard drive. First of all, it freed up a ton of space on the PC and second of all, I can still access them easily. Plus they are projected if my PC ever crashes. I also have then all on CDs. I think you should take a few hours over a few weeks and go through the pictures and delete the duplicates and non quality pictures and then save the rest and maybe transfer them to a hard drive if you feel so inclined. You know how I feel about pictures. I'm a fan, but they do need to be organized. Try and edit them out when you upload them for the future and don't keep so many! Good luck!

Well I was going to say delete them, but then after reading kylee's comment, I think that is a great idea as well. I lost all of my pictures from my old computer when it died and I am so sad that I hadn't saved them onto a hard drive or something. They are just gone. :( Good luck though, that is a long project to have to do.

I vote delete the bad/blurry/duplicates, and THEN put the rest on the external. Best of both worlds. :)

DELETE them. Keep the best ones, but there is no reason to have duplicates or bad/blurry/dark pictures. It's too overwhelming to have so many pictures, then nobody looks at them. Keep the best, delete the rest!

We also have our pictures on an external drive. It's also nice because if your computer dies or crashes or something you know you'll still have all your pictures/memories.

I don't know what advice to give, only that pictures are great, and the best ones, at least should be kept.

I know it'll take forever to go through them all! But, maybe just commit to going through 20 pictures a day and soon enough you'll have whittled them down. The best pictures I have are either in photo albums or scrapbooked. You can do digital photo albums for pretty cheap. We did that for some and then just burned the rest to a CD and then deleted them off of the computer. I still have a million I need to sift through though. And I've been working on my blog book forever too. It'll happen someday right?

Delete. For the future only take pictures of things you want to remember and only take a few good ones. In all honesty there is no need for a hundred pictures of Christmas day. Those are just my thoughts
