Gardening: lessons learned

Only start some seeds inside. Squash gets too big.

Have soil prepared to move sprouts outside when ready.

Don't start all seeds early. Don't water seedlings too much.

Watering too much = weeds springing up everywhere the extra water goes.

Leave room to walk on BOTH sides of your grow box.

Start lettuce from transplants (above) not seeds (below).

Start chive seeds inside because if you don't they won't mature past sprouts.

Plant carrots in rows. Not holes.

Broccoli plants get HUGE.

Flowers add a nice touch of color and beauty. Spread some around.

Peas freeze. Remember to cover them at night or they will die.

This was actually quite helpful! :) I planted my first garden last year and actually didn't think to plant my carrots in rows either.

Good gardening advice, Jord. Does this advice work in all places and seasons, or is it only good for the hotter environments? Thanks for the counsel and advice.

Your second year will be even better than the first! Keep at it and enjoy some of that $300 lettuce.

Our summer garden worked so well and was wonderful. Our winter garden was a complete fail. I have no idea what I'm doing! Thanks for the tips! :)
