Olympic Fever

Like the thousand other Olympic loving bloggers out there, I just can't get enough of Beijing 2008!

I've watched every broadcast on NBC thus far, and intend to watch every episode through the closing ceremonies (thanks DVR!).

I love the Olympics, and especially the summer games, for many reasons: the team spirit, the will to win, amazing feats, broken world and Olympic records, beautiful facilities, and exhilarating moments of physical achievement. I love the feeling of patriotism I get watching team USA athletes compete. I love cheering for our guys (or girls) to win. I love watching sports that are not the norm on ESPN, etc. I love the inspirational/conspiratorial/informational videos that NBC puts together on different athletes, intrigues, and places. I love it all. I mean, seriously, how could you not fall in love with this:

And China has done an amazing job and creating inspiring venues and a never-to-be-beat opening ceremonies.

I could not believe the pageantry that went on during the ceremonies and the perfection of the performers. Hats off to China and team USA for a wonderful Olympics so far!

I LOVE watching the olimpics and have stayed up all hours watching the amazing events. I am a little saddened though to hear some of China's stories of the youth training. Do you really think the jusding is fair????? I don't know... There is no disputing the amazing talent thats compeating!

The Chinese have put on a good show, that's for sure. You can do quite a bit and get quite a bit out of people in a totalitarian regime. Maybe the Olympics being there will open up China for missionary work. One surely hopes so!

You said it well Jord. I'm amazed when I talk to anyone who says they don't really watch the olympics. . . WHAT? Are you kidding me? I especially love the little bio videos as well where you get to know the athlete better. I liked Michael Phelps breakdown of his day both while in training and while at the olympics. I can't believe he swims 5 miles a day- both places! What an animal! I'm a bigger fan of events where the outcome is determined by a clock rather than the judges scoring however...

The olympics are so fun! I stayed up way too late last night watching swimming (Michael Phelps is a machine!) and gymnastics, both were so fun. I love the olympics, but part of me is sad about the perfection of the Chinese. DId you hear about how the little girl that was adorable that sang in the opening ceremonies was lip synching to a "not pretty enough to be representing China" little girl's voice? And it is so crazy how they scout kids out and take them away from their families at 3 years old to a lifetime of training. I personally love the stories of someone being driven to defying the odds because they love it and have a passion for it. Not because they were forced to do it. There is something so compelling about people throwing their whole heart and soul into pushing their bodies to the limit. It is amazing! And I think that my comment is now longer than your post.... sorry! I got on a roll... ;)

I'm loving the Olympics as well! More than in the past it seems. Maybe because I'm a little older? I am so sad but I missed the opening ceremonies and I cannot hear enough about it!!! Hopefully I can catch it on my moms DVR or something!

I'm sad I've missed out on some really great venues. I should have dvr'd the whole thing, but I'm pretty positive it would have run out in a day....there's so much to watch! The Olympians are great examples of what hard work and dedication can do.

Chris and I have been hard core Olympic watchers too. We are not getting to bed until way too late, but still continue to watch all night every night! The opening ceremonies was amazing!

Agreed Nichole- the judging sports are not fair. At all.
Leemo- I agree, I just don't get people who don't watch the Olympics.
