Much ado about hair

When I was in high school and for my first year of college I would get my hair done at the Bon Losee Academy of Hair Artistry- in layman's terms the beauty school. I went there because it was cheap and I was poor. However, I paid the price for my cheap haircuts and colors by having my hair unintentionally bleached blond, streaks and spots of color in noticeable places, uneven hair in front, back, on the sides, etc. Lets just say that I paid the price of being the guinea pig for the beauty school girls.

So one day my great freshman roomate came to the rescue and told me this very practical advice: Why spend good money on clothes you wear once a week/month, and cheap out on your hair that you wear EVERY DAY! It totally opened my eyes to the fact that having a good haircut can go a loooong way in making up for no makeup, old clothes, stains, etc.

Since that revelation I have had two wonderful hairdressers. The first one was a girl in Utah who was fabulous and who knew me, my hair, and what would work for me. My current girl is a mission friend who is just FABULOUS and takes care of all of my hair, color, and eyebrow waxing needs. She does live 25 miles away from me, which makes getting a haircut a little bit tricky, but she is totally worth it and the assurance of going to someone I trust, who I know will do a good job, completely pays off.

Amen sister. I remember Shep saying to me once after I hadn't got my hair done for like 8 months and it looked so bad, that I could spend tons of money on the nicest clothes that looked so good on me, but they would still look bad if my hair was all nappy. Touche. If only it wasn't so expensive... but it is so worth it! :)

I think it's true that if you don't go to an expensive hairdresser, you turn out . . . . . . . . BALD!! Or, at least, that's what has happened to me. So the advice is to keep going to the expensive hairdressers.

Seriously, I couldn't AGREE more! A great haircut has always been important to me. Having moved a lot in my life it has always been a frustration to find a new stylist--however--the secret I have found is AVEDA! I haven't had a bad haircut at an Aveda salon--I mean--I'm sure it could happen, but I have had pretty good luck with them overall. The only problem now is that I am in a SMALL town (3,500 people) and they don't have an Aveda salon--I guess I will traveling to Springfield or St. Louis!

I think after we moved to Virginia and i got the worst haircut of my life, my ideals changed, spending a little extra was not worty it. Now I am just trying to find someone here in Brasil, where hair dressers are a dime a dozen (but good, who knows).

I've been lucky to always have a relative that does my hair for cheap but also does a really good job. I've never though of things that way- that you wear your hair everyday. Good hairdressers to make a difference though! I'm glad you found someone you like.

But enough about hair...can you believe the Cougars kickoff in less than a week? I can't wait. And we may be dropping you a line to watch some of the games with you up in Phoenix. We're having trouble finding places to watch the games here in Tucson (neither my apartment nor Richie's can get adequate signal strength from DirecTV's satellite).

Oh, and we (meaning my wife and I) loved your Olympic posts. We've been captivated by the games as well. Did you stay up til the wee hours of the morning to watch the gold medal basketball game? Totally worth it.

I totally agree! In fact I'm getting Katie's hair cut this Friday very short! I cannot wait, but I've gone to the same girl forever. She knows what I like.

I once went on a date and ate dinner in the gazebo behind B.L. It was horribly embarrassing. I am a believer in not skimping on the hairdresser.

Hey Jord!! Thanks for the little tribute. You rock girl and so does your hair. Thanks for letting me make you feel and look good with a great hair cut. I appreciate you driving so far to come.
