In marketing there is a model known as the technology adoption life cycle model which is used to describe the five groups of buyers to whom a product is sold during its life cycle: Innovators, Early Adopters, Early Majority, Late Majority, and Laggards.
The Innovators are technology enthusiasts- they are the first to try out a new technology, but they represent just about 2% of the population.
Early Adopters, also known as visionaries, are somewhat keen to try out new technologies. They represent a larger slice of the market (10-15%), and they tend to have much more influence in an organization than do Innovators.
The Early Majority, sometimes called pragmatists, represent the bulk of the market (45%). They tend to buy in to new technologies only after they perceive solid references and safety measures that guard against potential failures.
The Late Majority, or conservatives, are also a very large portion of the market (35%). They are extremely cautious when buying into a new technology and want to see proof of results before they will accept a product's usefulness.
Laggards are skeptics who would prefer to avoid new technologies altogether. They will buy only if they really must and represent 5% of the market.
So, what's the point?
Well, in the blogging world, I consider myself a part of the late majority or even a laggard. I have been reading blogs for almost two years now and have seen many people enter the arena. But I held back. I resisted. I made excuses. I felt too self-conscious. I was skeptical. But finally I've caved in. I have a blog. I have jumped on the band wagon.
I don't expect much. Some people I read get hundreds of comments, connect with people from all over the world, post about fascinating events and ideas, and live thrilling lives. I don't really know what I am going to post. I don't have a list of ideas stored up and I live a pretty predictable life. But I'll give it a go and see what comes out. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!

I'm sure I'm one of those people with "thrilling lives" you mention. I mean, what can be more exciting than living in a cubicle and eating the same 12 meals over and over? No need to feel self-conscious about blogging, I just look at a blog as a nice creative release and a way to keep in touch with people so yours can be whatever you want. It is nice to get comments but don't let that determine how "popluar" your blog is; most people just read and don't comment. Also your first post shows why you should have been the business major instead of me! So I am glad to be the first to comment on here since you were the first on mine, and I say: keep up the good work!
P.S. You might want to sign up for Google Analytics (just Google it), since it keeps tracks of all the stats on your blog and is pretty interesting to check in on.
Way to go Jord! I'll look forward to reading your posts, whatever they are. You have so many good thoughts and experiences and even though your life may seem mundane to you, it is very interesting to many of us who will become your faithful supporters. So, make it whatever you want and just know that I'll be your number one reader. Post away!
Yay you're on the bandwagon! ;) I think you're going to love blogging, and I love this post! You are so funny. I'm totally looking forward to more!!
Yeah! I'm so excited! It's such a nice way to stay in touch with family and friends. I love to read other blogs of people's lives who are similar to mine who share different activities or different events or perspectives that can relate directly to my life. It may be selfish, but I gotta do what is going to make me a better wife and mother, and kid, it works.
Yay! I'm so excited you have a blog. Don't worry about comments. I can't even figure out how to get people to be able to leave them on mine...so I could be the only one reading it, but oh well. It makes for a good journal!
Love it! Okay "Laggard"...get typing!
Thanks for the blog, Jord. I look forward to reading it, along with Claire's blog, too. You are a wonderful wife and mother, and we're grateful for you. ree ree
Thanks for the comments everyone! I agree Jo, even if no one reads this, it is good to have as a journal to record what I think about or what is going on.
