Privileges

Does being the oldest come with special privileges?

L's new phrase is "Because I am the oldest." When she says this, she is indicating that she should get some special privilege because she was born first. It usually comes into play with little sister when they both want something or to do something at the same time.

The interesting thing is that when it is time to do something undesirable (get washed in the bath, go to bed, etc.) suddenly she wants little sister to go first.

Kids. You've got to love them!

Ha ha that L is a silly durl. I would say the being the oldest for you did have its benefits, what with your own bathroom and huge bedroom! However I still assert that #2 is best since they aren't the experimental child but still one of the older ones. All I have to say to L's little sister is: get used to it!

Where did she learn that behavior? Is it learned or innate? Seriously, that is amazing that she asserts herself in those situations and then pushes little sister forward when she doesn't want to be first. We humans are amazing creatures. And all this at three years of age!
Don't get me started on being the middle child...

Funny thing, but I'm partial to the number two position, as well. Jord, that was a great post, and it is interesting how birth order is influential in our development. Just don't get anyone started about being a middle child . . .

That is funny. Can you relate? Do you remember being that way? Or are you still that way???

I am the oldest in my family... and I agree with Lauren! The only problem being the oldest was that I always felt responsible for my siblings... and that was not always fun!

Yes, I think being oldest gets privileges, yes....but along with that comes the parentals experimentations w/ a first child as well. So it's all fair enough in the end!
