Napping

Lately I have been taking naps more often and have a few wonderings about napping in general.

Place: Where is the best place to nap? I can sleep on the couch or in my bed equally well, just depending on how long I'm asleep. (My favorite place to nap at BYU was in the HBLL in the 4th or 5th floor cubicles. I'd lay down my head, power nap for 20 minutes, and wake up refreshed, and usually with a little slobber on my book or arm. :) )

Time: How long is a good nap? I am not a power napper anymore, like when I was in college, and need at least an hour to feel like the nap did any good.

Distractions: What do you do to occupy your children? I usually sleep when my baby is napping and just have my big girl watch a movie or play by herself. I also always take my phone off the hook and turn my cell on silent to keep the peace and quiet going as long as possible.

Wear: I always nap fully clothed, in jeans, my church dress, etc. It usually wrinkles my clothes terribly, but I find that if I get on pj's or change my clothes I can't wake up as easily.

So those are my thoughts for today!

HBLL 5th floor cubicle was my spot to nap. And I had my fair share of a bit of drool and just hoped that no one was walking by when I tried to slyly wipe it away!

Good post, Jord. You have been a great napper ever since I can remember. The greatest evidence of that was when you slept almost the whole time we were driving to Dallas, for about TWENTY HOURS.

For myself, I rarely nap, and am sorry about it. I should take quick naps during the work day, but don't.

That's so funny, I was ALWAYS falling asleep there too, not intentionally though. There must have been some kind of sleeping powder in the air.

I could never power nap though. I'd eventually wake up and then make my way to the bathroom that had the lounge and crash on the couch/bed for at least another hour. (Don't know if they got rid of that by the time you were there).

One time I slept right through the closing Hawaii Five-O music they played back then and didn't wake up until almost 2 am when the janitors came through! If they hadn't found me, I probably would've ended up sleeping through until morning.

Napping is something I wish I could do! The moment I lay down my brain starts racing through all of the things I haven't accomplished yet and I can't fall asleep because they just nag at me, and I would probably forget them if I did fall asleep. I have a hard time falling asleep at night, too for the same reason. I also hate waking up from naps. I feel like I wasted time and am always so mad that I fell asleep. I know, I am a weirdo.

So interesting to hear other people's nap schedules, though! I think I would be a much happier and nicer mom if I was better rested for sure! I envy the nappers :)

my naps have dwindled down to just memories of what they use to be! It was a sad day when my boys stopped napping :(

I have no good advice with this one. I myself am not a fan of naps. Reason being is that I feel more tired when I wake up after then I did before. I don't even like to sleep at night though. My poor husband! Every night he asks me in a pleading voice if we can go to be yet and I'm mean and always plead for the opposite. Sad!

Jord,

Although I have been a horrible commenter as of late, I read your blog religiously as it is on my google reader and I hardly ever get onto people's personal blogs anymore. Yeah for google reader and to Claire for showing it to me.

Good for you! You deserve a nap! Amanda is a big napper too. I can imagine Jana being too soon. :) I however HATE napping, I feel sick after doing so.

I love your girls! Little Lauren is so cute! Happy Birthday Sweetie! Ellie, of course is too, but we are spotlighting Lauren of course since it was recently her birthday post. Such a doll!
