Tom Turkey

So this Thanksgiving I will be making my first turkey. We're having J's family down for dinner and I am excited/nervous/apprehensive about cooking the dinner. I love a challenge and will give it a go, but also don't want it to turn out gross. My great mother-in-law will be there to help if I totally mess up, but as an approaching thirty-year-old I think it is time I learn to cook a turkey myself. I THINK I CAN...I THINK I CAN....I THINK I CAN....

"You can do it" Jord, "if you put your mind to it" as the song goes. I have no doubt that you will do a great job, especially with Barbara right there and Jake making all the pies (that's half the battle, right?) I'm sure it will all turn out great. I think the hardest part is just getting it all to be ready to serve at the same time. I'm only a speed dial away if needed :)

You can do it! I know everyone has there favorite ways to do turkey. My Mom has done the brining, the frying and all of the different things you can imagine. I think the consensus has been that the easiest and yummiest no fail way to make it moist, tender and flavorful is with a rub recipe we found from the LA Times. Anytime we've made a turkey/chicken this way it's turned out well. Let me know if you're interested and I'll give you the recipe.

Good luck, Jord. I can't give you much firsthand advice, but I can say that you do come by cooking naturally from your mother. Anyway, you are very intrepid, and the turkey will be a smashing success. Happy Thanksgiving!

I made the turkey last year for my family (why? I do not know!) and it ended up turning out to be the highlight of dinner. If I can do it, you can do it too!

You can do it! :) It's really not as hard as you think it is, I promise. I'm sure everything will turn out so well and you'll have lots of helpers there too. I wish I was there to help as well!! But only a few more weeks until we'll see you at Christmas! Hooray!

Thanks Mom, I will definitely call you with questions. And I'm sure you made an excellent bird Syd, you've got that domestic ability. And I'm sad not to see you Sarah, but way excited for Christmas!
And Bethany I'll call you for the rub recipe ASAP.
